Back to the Basics: Work For What You Want.

Too much stock is placed in what people want. Not enough is placed in the work to create it. That feels odd to say in 2021 given how much we know. Human nature is stubborn.

People are quick to consume but slow to learn. They’re obsessed with concepts but resistant to execution. Most of all, people are excited to dream but fearful to change.

If wanting something badly enough was the key, a whole different set of people would be living out their dreams right now based on how much they want it. Look what people want:

  • Physically look and feel good
  • Happiness
  • Safety and security
  • Wealth (on their terms)
  • Positively impact lives
  • Freedom in their schedule
  • Fulfilling work
  • Reach the pinnacle of their competitive field
  • Strong, healthy relationships
  • Raise good kids
  • Fame
  • Legacy

We know people want a lot on this list. Everybody wants something. It’s not about want. Wanting things, even wanting them intensely, isn’t unique across the population.

It’s in the work where you see a significant difference in people. It’s always in the work.

Everything is training for something. Do the work.
