The Key To Living Free

Driving home Monday night a question popped into my mind: What is life supposed to be? For such a simple question it’s not such a simple answer.

The phrase “supposed to” reveals only your subjective opinions and expectations. For someone else, even someone close to you, it could be drastically different. It reflects your understanding of reality, your projections of the future, and most of all what you are entitled to experience and avoid.

How you answer affects everything about how you respond to situations mentally, emotionally, physically, or relationally. It’s one of your first and strongest emotional filters.

Think about it. When you experience something your mind naturally asks, “Is this supposed to happen? Am I supposed to feel like this? Is life supposed to be like this?”

It’s not supposed to be anything. You want it to go a certain way. You hope certain things never happen. You want a lot more of some feelings and a lot less of others. Everyone has these thoughts. But none of that means it’s supposed to be that way.

Life is everything. It’s the whole spectrum. It’s different things at different times in different ways for different reasons. All of it is possible and sooner or later you’re going to experience most of it just like me.

It’s only when you let go of what you think life is supposed to be that you’re able to live freely and make yours everything it can be.

Everything is training for something. Do the work.
