You Don’t Have To Get Offended.

Being offended is a choice. You don’t have to be. If you are, it’s because you choose to be. Choosing to be offended is within your rights of course. The meaningful question is whether that choice strengthens you or weakens you. Benefits your life or damages it. Serves your mission or serves your ego.

That’s hard for some people to understand. I don’t expect this message to change someone’s mind. Maybe it can open someone’s mind though.

People get offended about emotional topics. What do people get emotional over? Anything. Everything. When a person is late or when an airplane is. When someone votes differently, lives differently, or thinks differently on social media.

I find it helpful to ask myself, “Do I choose to be offended by this?” It keeps me in control of myself. More importantly it keeps me responsible for me and how I respond to things I didn’t create and don’t control.

I’ve never answered, “Yes”, because for me it never feels like a strong choice, one that benefits my life, or serves my mission. That’s how I approach it.

When I have the option to not be offended, and I always do, I choose anything else.

Everything is training for something. Do the work.
