How you disagree matters.

A lot of people disagree with you. You know that. You are going to disagree with plenty of people going forward too. As long as people have opinions and preferences there will be disagreements.

Disagreement doesn’t mean problem. It means different perspectives. During your next disagreement, take a reflective step back to check your internal priorities.

  • Are you trying to win?
  • How would you declare a winner and what would you win?
  • How well do you understand the other side’s perspective?
  • Can you explain their position well enough that they’d agree with your explanation?
  • Do you need to resolve the disagreement or can you accept that people see it differently than you?

Discipline is the shortcut. Do the work.
