In facing death, we discover truth.

How far away are you from death?

Each of us answers this question, consciously or unconsciously.

The further away from death you believe you are, the easier it is to put things off, entertain your distractions, and justify low-value uses of time. Conversely, the closer to death you believe you are, the harder it is to explain even one day not aimed at a fulfilling purpose.

None of us know how far away we are from death, which leaves us free to believe anything.

When death feels like a distant eventuality, the value of today drops in your mind. When death feels like an approaching certainty, the value of today rises in your mind.

I do not believe in waiting for the impending reality of death to cast its shadow over my life before I acknowledge the value and seriousness of my purpose today in every breath, every interaction, and every decision.

How could I justify wasting the unknown time I have left, whether that is one more day or 50 more years?

The time is now. Do the work.
