Can Conformity Create Excellence?

Excellence and conformity struggle to coexist. I could make a strong case they cannot coexist. Even though that may not be an absolute truth, it's accurate enough to take seriously.

Excellence is, by definition, not common. It is distinct. It rises above. As we've clarified together this week, it stands out.

Conformity is unlikely to lead you to excellence. Explore that in your mind, but don't take my word for it. I'm not the authority. Pressure test that statement.

I observe that the people producing excellence in the world are non-conforming in one way or another. Some take the extreme path and reject conformity entirely. These rebels, pioneers, and creators are blazing new trails and creating the future.

Others are more moderate, resisting conformity in specific areas or ways. These challengers, innovators, and independent spirits pay attention to the voice in their heads, calling them to something better than what they're experiencing.

Can we defy conformity in pursuit of excellence and remain aligned within our key relationships, groups, and partnerships?

Yes, we absolutely can.

But first, we probably need to shift some things in our mindset.

We'll finish the week with that tomorrow.

Answer the call. Do the work.
