Discover joy in the friction

Willingness is a choice. Choices require us to prioritize. Priorities create conflict and tension.

That tension doesn’t need to create anxiety. It doesn’t need to create stress, misery, and self-judgment.

Let the tension between your wants and choices be a place of joy. Let yourself find enjoyment in making decisions in that space. Let yourself feel that friction. It’s not like you can remove friction from your life experience anyway. That friction reminds you that you’re alive and responsible for making good choices.

Allow that friction to be a space of active engagement where your mind, heart, decisions, and actions come together and say, “What I do in here makes me who I am. In this tension between competing priorities, desires, and my willingness, I determine the content of my character and the course of my life. Here, I am alive and in control. What more could I ask for? What could be more joyful than carving my own stone and setting my own course?”

Brick by brick. Do the work.
