Does discipline have disadvantages?

Yesterday I told you one advantage of a disciplined life is that your options expand as your discipline grows and improves.

One reader asked, “What about the disadvantages of a disciplined life? Can you tell us about those?”

Here are five disadvantages of a disciplined life:

  1. More often than not, you are at odds with your surroundings trying to tempt and distract you.
  2. You say no a lot more (see #1).
  3. People try to pull you away from discipline, intentionally and unintentionally, especially people who know you well.
  4. You choose delayed gratification over immediate gratification.
  5. You do a lot of work over an extended period without a big payoff.

Can you think of a practical example from your life for each of these?

Answer the call. Do the work.
