Embrace the chase

You can live a long time before understanding that most of the pleasure is felt in the chase, not the achievement. Achieving is only the culmination of much larger body of meaningful work. That uncertain work, the chase, ends up being our most valued, and missed, experience.

Victory is the emotional peak, yes, but it’s also the shortest lived moment of the journey and marks the end of it. It washes over you in a climax of triumph and then it’s over. You wake up the next morning.

The memory is never quite as satisfying as the moment. The moment is never quite as meaningful as the journey. The achievement is never quite as important as the work it took to get it.

Do the work.
