How do I make discipline become a habit?

I get asked some version of this same question every week, “How do I make discipline become a habit?” The answer has two parts and is always the same:

  1. Don’t worry about building disciplined habits. Do disciplined things.

  2. Sustaining is a matter of doing it now, again when you have the chance, and returning to it quickly when you drift off track.

The best way to be disciplined every day is to be disciplined today.
