How to open the door to discipline

Ever notice how you can’t do the discipined thing until you stop doing the undiscipined thing? That’s why “don’t do”  is a top priority. It’s about keeping the door open for discipline—even if you’re not ready to walk through it yet.

Not doing the undisciplined thing keeps the door open to doing the disciplined thing.

  • Not blaming opens the door for accepting responsibility.
  • Not complaining opens the door for solving the problem.
  • Not getting defensive opens the door for processing feedback.
  • Not judging opens the door for understanding.
  • Not reacting opens the door for intentionality.
  • Not talking opens the door for listening.

You may not be ready to walk through a certain door yet, but keep it open. You can’t walk through a door you've locked shut.

Event + Response = Outcome. Do the work.
