Make it clear.

Continuing from yesterday, here are two more practical insights for checking-in with your needs at any given moment:

  1. Presence is an important need I didn’t mention yesterday. Someone to be with you. Sometimes what you need isn’t an action or conversation, it’s just an embrace or an awareness that someone is there for you. Thank you to DD reader Tamara for reminding me this belongs on the core list.
  2. Sometimes you have more than one need. When that’s the case, order matters. The sequence of how your needs are addressed is an important factor in feeling like they get met. For example, if someone challenges you before you feel like they understand you or believe in you, the challenge may fall flat. You need the challenge but close yourself off from it because you don’t feel understood or encouraged.

Discipline is the shortcut. Do the work.
