Search for the truth, not the new

Surprisingly little in human behavior and our understanding of it is new. Despite loud voices and popular crowds claiming the opposite, not much has changed in what we do, why we do it, and how it works.

What happens is timeless truths get forgotten, ignored, undervalued, and overlooked. Even that isn’t new. It’s one of the strongest themes through all of human history.

Our personal lessons, revelations, and epiphanies are us finally understanding something that has been understood by others for thousands of years. More often than not we aren’t finding a truth. We are realizing truth that was already there. I find that encouraging. It creates a hunger in me. And a confidence that if anyone else, ever, has been in this situation and looked for this truth and found it . . . so I can and so can you.
