Some people go the extra mile

I bought a new car yesterday. It almost didn't happen, but for an extraordinary effort from a woman named Suzanne.

As most of you know, my family and I moved to Denver earlier this week. We turned in one of our cars, which was at the end of its lease, before leaving Charlotte. I drove our other vehicle to Colorado as my wife flew out with our children.

After moving into our house, our next priority was to secure a second car. I did online research in the weeks leading up to our move and found a local dealership with some good options. After visiting the dealership, I found the car I wanted to purchase but ran out of time in the evening to get a deal done because my wife needed me home for dinner and bedtime routines with our kids.

The problem was that my wife and I both needed a car the following day, and we still only had one. So I asked Suzanne, the salesperson, if I could come back in the morning to buy the car. The car I wanted was in high demand, so she was nervous someone else might get it before I came back in the morning. The next day was her day off, but if that's what I needed to do, she promised to come in anyway and help me.

We exchanged cell phone numbers. I thanked her and went home. Later that night, we traded texts and agreed to meet at the store as soon as it opened at 9:00 am.

The next morning I realized my wife couldn't take me to the dealership because a cleaning crew was coming to our house. I text Suzanne and told her I was working on a solution to get to the dealership. She immediately text me back and said she would come to my house and pick me up. On her day off! I should also mention Suzanne recently had foot surgery, is in a boot, and gets around on a knee scooter while her foot heals.

I was blown away. I know car salespeople work on commission, but I've never had a salesperson offer to assist me on their day off and personally pick me up at my house while healing from surgery.

Suzanne is a pro. More than that, she's a good person. The first time I sat down with her, I saw a massive silver trophy on her desk with her name engraved six times next to the years 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021. Curious, I asked, "What is this trophy, and why is your name on it every year? What kind of competition are you dominating?"

"Salesperson of the year.", she said with a confident smile, "I've never lost."

I could have bought a car anywhere, from anyone. I'm glad I bought mine from Suzanne. She made the experience convenient, smooth, and fun when she didn’t have to. If you’re ever in Denver and need a car, go see Suzanne at Genesis in Littleton. She’ll take care of you. Something tells me her name will soon be engraved next to 2022.

Answer the call. Do the work.
