“It’s You vs. You.”
You’ve heard this. Maybe you’ve said it. People say it with conviction, like it’s the secret to success. They say it with passion, which makes it feel convincing. But let’s look closer.
I will tell you what someone should have told you a long time ago: positioning yourself against yourself is dangerous.
You’re in a fight for your life. It’s just not against yourself.
I know what people mean. They want you to push harder. Stop making excuses. Overcome weakness. Do better. But framing it as You vs. You creates a war inside your head, and even deeper, in your heart.
You vs. You says you’re the hero but also the villain. The one fighting to succeed and the one making sure you don’t. In the You vs. You mindset, the only way you can win is if you lose.
Does that sound like solid ground to build your life on? Does that sound like the inner clarity and confidence you need to win your biggest battles?
It doesn’t. That’s no way to reach the highest peaks and lead a full life.
Don’t put yourself at war with yourself. Put yourself in alignment with yourself.
It’s not You vs. You. You’re not fighting against yourself. You’re fighting for yourself against forces that want to keep you contained or push you off your path.
Many forces will try to plant doubt inside you. Forces that want you second-guessing your aims, your standards, and your possibilities. Forces that profit when you live their way instead of your way.
Don’t let those forces invade your mind. Stop fighting yourself. Start fighting for yourself.
It’s not You vs. You. It’s you for you, against everything trying to distract you from becoming who you’re meant to be.
