You might not be in position to set standards for anyone else, but you are absolutely in position to set standards for yourself. That always comes first anyway.
What standards have you set for yourself? And where have you set them?
Don’t confuse standards with goals. They’re not the same thing. Standards are virtues to live, principles to uphold, behaviors to demonstrate. They’re not things to achieve. Standards exist in your mindset and actions.
Make no mistake, you’ve already set standards for yourself and are setting them every day. What only you can answer is whether you’re doing it by design or by default.
It’s up to you to set high, average, or low standards because you are ultimately the only one who can live them. Your attitude, action, and words will reflect your standards. Make that a self-aware choice. Make that an active choice. Make that an intentional choice.
Everything is training for something. Do the work.
