What is true?

My priority list always starts with: What is true? In every situation, on every topic, in any environment, and at any moment. I have no authority over what is true and what is not. I have no secret access. I am curious. I am committed. And I am relentless.

My priority list always starts with: what is true?

Not my self-interest.
Not my belief.
It starts with: what is true?

Not my desire.
Not my comfort.
It starts with: what is true?

Not my preference.
Not my opinion.
It starts with: what is true?

Not my tribe.
Not my agenda.
It starts with: what is true?

Not my goal.
Not my wish.
It starts with: what is true?

What is true sometimes aligns with our interests and preferences. Just as often, it doesn’t. The highest priority of a disciplined person is to consider, discover, and acknowledge what is true, detached from personal preference, and work from that foundation.

To stay true to discipline, you must adjust your perspective based on what you discover to be true. When you limit what you accept as true to only what fits your perspective or matches your self-interest, you have lost not only your discipline but also your integrity.

Energize your interest in discovering what is true rather than narrowly seeking confirmation of existing opinions, support for existing preferences, and validation for existing emotions.

I must not allow my opinions to filter my recognition and acceptance of truth. Truth must guide my opinions. Never the inverse.

What kind of person would I be if I put my desire, my self-interest, and my comfort ahead of discovering what is true?

Brick by brick. Do the work.
