I believe in the power of playing at the extremes. More than that, I believe in the power of playing opposite extremes at the same time. Most people play to the middle. They worry about being wrong, offending someone, getting criticized, and doing too much or too little of something. They’re always avoiding anything too far from what is accepted as “normal”.
The problem is that playing to the middle loses. But only after seducing you into thinking it’s the safe approach. It’s not the safe approach, it’s the generic approach. It’s the average approach. Do . . . not . . . settle . . . in the middle.
You are not one thing. You are an entire range of abilities. Be fast and slow, patient and urgent. Be empathetic and exacting, caring and demanding. Be ambitious and satisfied, hungry and content. Be what you need to be, when you need to be it. Embrace the power of being opposite things at the same time. It makes you real and it makes you memorable. Leave your mark. Be a unique experience. Display the rare, unexpected qualities that people value and appreciate.
