We will continue our conversation about the differences between players and competitors, but let’s launch this week with some reflection questions:

  • If you aim for excellence, what risks increase? What risks decrease?
  • If you settle for average, what risks increase? What risks decrease?
  • How does chasing excellence help and improve your life?
  • How does being okay with average help and improve your life?
  • What discomfort will you face if you go after excellence?
  • What discomfort will you face if you accept average?
  • Who benefits from you striving for excellence?
  • Who benefits from you settling for average?
  • Think of the most important things you want but don’t have. Will excellence or average get you closer to them?
  • Think of the biggest problems bugging you. Will excellence or average fix them better?
  • If you could talk to your 10-year-old self, would you say to aim high and try hard or aim for the middle and try little?
  • If your 90-year-old self could speak to you today, would they suggest aiming for excellence or sticking with average?

My challenge to you, beyond reflecting, is to talk with at least one other person about these questions. Start a conversation, even if it is only about one pair of the above questions. Who knows the doors it could open, the thoughts it could open, and where it could lead?

Event + Response = Outcome. Do the work.
