If you aren’t familiar with E+R=O it means Event + Response = Outcome. It’s been part of my life since I was 16. (Thanks Dad) First I resisted it. Then I used it. Then I built my life around it. Now I teach it.

Here’s 3 life-changing lessons I’ve learned about E+R=O in the last 20 years:

  • A disciplined response is it’s own reward. I don’t control outcomes and I’m not attached to them. I control myself. If I do my absolute best with E+R=O, that’s all I can do. Literally. But it has to be my absolute best.
  • Most outcomes require more responses than I think. One response rarely creates the outcome I want. I get the outcome I want once I earn it because I’m good enough for long enough.
  • I’ll never be good enough at E+R=O. No matter how good I think I am, no matter how hard I work, no matter how well I prepare, life levels up to meet me where I am. I expect it will continue until the day I die.

How long have you been using E+R=O and what is the most important lesson you’ve learned so far? Share this question on Twitter then email me your answer because I want to hear your story.

Do the work.
