A quick two-step strategy to overcome paralysis by analysis

One thing we all crave is reliability. It’s an innate human desire. We want to know when our next meal is, where we’ll lay our head at night, who we can count on, and how we’ll get our next paycheck. We want to know if that meditation app will actually lower our anxiety like it promises and whether telling the truth to our best friend will permanently damage the relationship.

There are no guarantees, but making choices in uncertainty threatens our need for reliability. So how do you get reliability during uncertainty?

When you face an uncertain decision, or at least one you’re internally debating, try this two-step strategy:

  1. What does default (the weaker part of you) say to do? What does discipline (the stronger part of you) say to do?
  2. From those two options, what does timeless truth point to as the more reliable approach?
  3. Choose the timeless truth option because it’s more reliable and act on it.

Embrace the chase. Do the work.
