Yesterday we talked about getting up. Today, let's talk about what makes that possible.
"Get up" isn't a magical skill. It's an attitude.
Sure, skills will support you when you decide to get up. Skills like focus, persistence, problem-solving, flexibility, and emotional resilience. But even when you have all those skills, you’ll stay down if your attitude isn't right. Attitude comes first, then skills contribute.
You can't skill your way out of a door your attitude has locked shut. But the right attitude will open every door to access or build any skill you need.
The reason one person gets up and another doesn’t isn’t lack of knowledge or skill. That’s what people who don’t get up pretend it’s about. But it’s not. I hear that excuse. I see it. It’s not real.
It’s because they don’t want to get up. They’re scared, tired, or frustrated. The person who gets up is also scared, tired, or frustrated. But they get up anyway. Their attitude won’t let them stay down.
So pay attention to your attitude. Observe whether your attitude demands that you get up or wants you to stay down. That is invaluable self-awareness worthy of your curiosity.
Choose the attitude that opens doors for you, not the attitude that locks them shut. You’re going to get knocked down again. Your attitude, not your skill, will determine whether you get up.
Event + Response = Outcome. Do the work.
