Be You, Align With Us

We left yesterday asking, "Can we defy conformity in pursuit of excellence and remain aligned within our key relationships, groups, and partnerships?"

Yes, I told you, we absolutely can. But it requires a shift in mindset.

  • Alignment does not require conformity.
  • Unity does not require uniformity.
  • Excellence does not require approval.

Conformity isn't what creates alignment.

Alignment comes from people sharing a vision, mission, and a sense of purpose, especially when there are different ways to approach and contribute to that effort.

Uniformity is not what creates unity.

Unity comes from people understanding, caring, and working hard for each other, especially when they're different from one another.

Approval isn't what creates excellence.

Excellence comes from deep personal beliefs, intense personal discipline, and strong personal responsibility, especially when critics and cynics try to chip away at your resolve.

One of my favorite guiding principles for a team or family is: "Be you, align with us." There is room for you to be uniquely you and align with the bigger mission. There is room for you to align without sacrificing your standards. It just takes work.

So be you *and* align.

Work out your standards of excellence, then work out how to align those within your key relationships, groups, and team environments.

Alignment does not require conformity. Unity does not require uniformity. Excellence does not require approval.

Answer the call. Do the work.
