Attitude can open doors or close them. Accelerate a path or bog it down. Strengthen your resolve or destroy it. Attitude is powerful. It’s just not all-powerful.
Attitude is only part of the equation. I don’t want to be a passenger on the plane of an incompetent pilot with a great attitude. I’m sure you don’t either.
A good attitude is no substitute for lack of preparation, skill, and performance. Although plenty of people try to rationalize it that way. It isn’t enough in our professional lives to commit to a good attitude without also committing to be exceptionally skilled at the standards of our work.
It isn’t enough in many areas of our personal lives either. Listening with your spouse. Patience with your kids. Respect with your friends. Perspective with your opinions.
A good attitude is committed to more than itself. A good attitude pushes you. To continue learning. To continue developing. To create real and relevant skills that impact the world around you.
Discipline is the shortcut. Do the work.
