Cliches quickly get confusing.

A few weeks ago I wrote about the importance of controlling the distribution of your attention. I don’t know if you read that Friend, but here's a real example where people get lost and confused.

Are you supposed to Live in the Moment or Keep Perspective? They both sound useful and true.

Live in the Moment feels so right when your three-month-old daughter is sleeping in your arms, not as much when she’s screaming in your face at 4am.

Keep Perspective feels so right when you lose the championship game, not as much when you win it.

The answer is you need to do both. Self-awareness helps you recognize the context of the moment. Self-control helps you distribute your attention in the most valuable direction.

Discipline is the shortcut. Do the work.
