Confidence is a propelling force that accelerates you into action. It's a belief, an expectation that good things will happen.

Low or doubt-filled expectations lead to weak action. Inaction or weak action leads to miserable experiences and disappointing outcomes. So if confidence is weak or absent, something else must fuel your effort and expectations.

What can propel you forward when you lack confidence?

Courage.

When confidence is missing, fear and doubt are the two primary risks. The typical reaction to fear and doubt is fight, flight, or freeze. Confidence doesn't get bogged down in these.

Courage is unique because it's only possible in the absence of confidence and the presence of fear. The entire purpose of courage – its reason for existence – is to fill in for confidence when confidence goes missing.

If you wait for confidence, you'll wait forever and never act. In the absence of confidence, courage accelerates you into necessary action.

Courage activates because of your fear. It doesn't suggest that you be confident. It doesn't tell you to stop being afraid. Courage works with and through your fear.

Courage deals with uncertainty. Uncertain paths. Uncertain steps. Uncertain experiences. Uncertain outcomes. Uncertain consequences. And it moves you to act with focus, discipline, and resilience through all that uncertainty and more.

Courage fuels you with a belief bigger and stronger than your fear and doubt, even when that doubt is in yourself.

Answer the call. Do the work.
