80% of the time I process E+R=O in this order because it’s the most strategic way and I like to stay on offense:
- What outcome do I want here?
- What do I need to understand about the event?
- Given what I want, and what I’m dealing with, what’s the most disciplined response I can engage in right now?
20% of the time I reverse the order of my thought process because the context demands it:
- What is the reality of the event that just happened?
- Given that reality, how does my outcome need to adjust?
- To get that outcome with this event, how do I need to respond now?
The equation is read from left to right. That doesn’t mean it needs to be applied that way. Pay attention to context. Be strategic. Use E+R=O to stay on offense.
Discipline is the shortcut. Do the work.
Not everyone is competitive. That’s ok. But for those who are competitive or need to be . . . these 5 learnable skills create Competitive Excellence.
