Discipline is not a last resort

Heads up. This is a tough love message.

Because some of you need this message today. Some of you will want to share it with someone else who needs it. And some of you will need to apply it to yourself before sharing it with someone else who needs it.

Here we go . . .

Most people pursuing a personal goal are willing to try anything but discipline. They’ll try any scheme, product, or suggestion that promises to lower the discipline required to get the desired result.

Over the years, people fluctuate in and out of one scheme to the next, none of which work. It’s common for people to have tried dozens of “tricks” dozens of times without making meaningful progress.

Still fighting the same battle. Still reaching for the same goal. Still struggling with the same issues. Still trying everything but discipline.

If you want to succeed in any effort, make discipline your first requirement, not your last resort. Not just a first requirement, a constant requirement. If you aren’t willing to invest serious discipline into it, you aren’t serious about it. Action tells the truth.

Let me be unmistakably clear: if anything but discipline is your mindset to achieve a goal, set that goal aside until you’re mature enough to provide the discipline it requires.

Brick by brick. Do the work.
