What you want from other people, you are responsible for demonstrating and providing first.

If you want someone to trust you, demonstrate trust in them.
If you want people to be confident in you, demonstrate confidence in them.
If you want someone to listen to you, listen to them.
If you want patience from someone, demonstrate patience with them.
If you want empathy from someone, demonstrate empathy for them.

People follow models. Model what you want. It doesn’t work perfectly, because people are complicated, but you’ll hold tight to your integrity and gain more than if you refused.

After all, if you’re unwilling to give the things you expect, what right do you have to expect them?
