How do you measure excellence?

Excellence can be challenging to measure. It's not always purely objective. Neither is it totally subjective.

Objective measures of excellence are necessary for skills and performance in arenas like business, sports, and military. People and teams must execute specific tasks above a particular standard of quality or result.

Subjective measures of excellence are necessary when the priority aim is progress or improvement rather than the final result. The other is when the aim is not skill or performance but rather fun, happiness, or fulfillment.

Is there a practical measure we can use that informs both our objective and subjective efforts?

I believe there is. And we can capture it in two sentences:

  1. The best I am capable of right now.
  2. The best I am capable of becoming.

Reflect on what this measure would do for your life and what it would mean to you.

Come back tomorrow to learn the hidden strategic details behind this combined measure and why it works so well.

Brick by brick. Do the work.
