There's a maxim that says "Make people believe they're thinking and they'll love you. Make them actually think and they'll hate you."
The truth in this statement is because people love the feeling of being right and hate the feeling of being wrong. They hate feeling pushed into thinking about the possibility that they could be wrong. They prefer not to do it.
They much prefer to read and listen to messages that reinforce what they already believe. Anything that validates an existing thought, perspective, or conviction.
Most authors, speakers, and media personalities know about this dynamic. They are hesitant to push you into actually thinking because they know most people don’t want that. They hate it and reject it. Basically, it’s a bad business model.
The better business model is to pull you in by saying what you already think and agree with, and say it over and over, constantly. That’s what attracts most people and earns their trust.
But I’m never going to do that.
If you read these messages, I’m going to make you think. Because that’s how you learn, mature, evolve, and improve.
You may agree. You may disagree. You may be unsure. But I’m not here to make you believe you’re thinking. I’m here to make you actually think. I’m not here to validate you. I’m here to challenge you and push you closer to truth, integrity, and excellence.
Whether you love me or hate me is none of my business.
