On Hard Work: Part 3

Working through a struggle may be the central element to learning and, therefore, the essential dynamic in our personal development. Yet, many environments are, unfortunately, trying everything in their power to remove struggle from our individual and shared experiences.

It’s not that everything has to be difficult and painful. The pendulum has swung too far in that direction in the past. Now it has turned too far in the opposite direction, attempting to eliminate any emotional discomfort. Some things are, in fact, hard and cannot be accomplished without going through uncertainty, struggle, awkwardness, and, yes, pain. Some things are better when they’re harder rather than easier -- like working out, writing, and learning.

Some of the most valuable treasures are only discovered through struggle because they are buried deep within its twisting tunnels and dark caves. You know this is true even when you don’t want it to be true.

The option you have every day is whether you’re willing to step away from comfort, convenience, and familiarity and willingly enter into struggles that will help you grow stronger, smarter, kinder, more capable, and more resilient.

Struggle well and the world will open doors for you.

Answer the call. Do the work.
