The truth I’ve learned about hard things

It isn’t easy. And that’s a good thing.

Easy isn’t rewarding. It isn’t meaningful or fulfilling. I don’t learn anything about myself when it’s easy.

I want it to be hard. I need it to be hard.

Hard things make me honest, and they teach me the truth about myself. Everything rewarding happens through hard things. Everything meaningful and fulfilling happens because of hard things.

It’s hard because it must be hard. Hard filters out the weak-minded. It keeps the unwilling away from what they haven’t earned. Hard is a huge part of what defines value.

I may think I want it to be easier. I might think I want more certainty and guarantee it will pay off. I might think that’s what I want. But I don’t want that.

I want the reward, the satisfaction, the fulfillment. That means I can’t want easy. I want hard. Because hard is the only thing that can deliver my true desires.

Be thankful when it’s hard. That’s our opportunity.

Brick by brick. Do the work.
