The best part of Christmas is how we allow ourselves to be consumed by a spirit of love, kindness, and connection. The world doesn’t stop or change. But for a brief season, we do. We don’t fight over whether it is appropriate to love each other. We don’t argue about whether it’s the right time for kindness.
We accept it. We embrace it. We just do it.
Our differences don’t go away. Neither do our disagreements or disappointments. We still have our goals, tasks, quotas, responsibilities, and our unsolved problems. The machinery of society continues to churn and grind and pound ahead.
But during Christmas, we choose to see through a different lens. The picture doesn’t change. We change our perspective of the picture. Not because we have to, but because the standard of the season compels us. The spirit moves us. And we don’t fight it. We accept it.
We open up parts of ourselves that we sometimes close off. We think, feel, and interact with an intention that sometimes goes missing for long stretches. We choose to see the good. We choose to share the love. We choose to connect with a clear-eyed purpose.
And in that spirit, I send you a Merry Christmas.
