I know plenty of people who are aware they need to get more disciplined. They can see it clearly enough. Their reasons always come from the same list:
- Quality of life has dropped
- Goals remain unaccomplished
- Feeling unfulfilled
- Recognizing untapped potential
- Strained relationships
- Feeling stuck
- Feeling overwhelmed
- Repeating the same mistakes
- Falling into the same unproductive patterns
People who are aware they need to get more disciplined tend to acknowledge it. But that’s usually all they do. Talk about it. Laugh about it. But they rarely do anything about it. They do not turn their awareness into discipline.
They just live with, and try to hide from, the awareness that they are not disciplined enough to earn some important outcome they want.
You may recognize some of your own patterns in this description. That pestering thought, that feeling in your stomach? That's your discipline calling.
If you can see yourself in any of this, don’t go another week stuck between awareness and discipline. Don’t go another day.
Awareness without action is the recipe for anxiety. The moment you recognize you need more discipline is the moment to act on it.
Don’t let gaps form between your self-awareness and your self-discipline. Don’t accept a lack of discipline as a fixed property. Don't normalize being undisciplined when discipline is completely in your power.
When self-awareness hits, self-discipline must follow. Decisively and immediately.
Event + Response = Outcome. Do the work.
