What Drives Your Actions: Standards or Comfort?

The more time that goes by between when you make a decision and when you act on it, the less likely it is you’ll act on it. Think of a couple examples from your own life when you made an important decision but never acted on it.

On Tuesday I said, “It starts with choices” and gave you a four-question framework to make more confidence decisions. The four questions help you intentionally choose when you feel tension between your principles vs your desires, between your values vs your impulses.

The purpose of more confident decisions is to follow-through with more confident actions. It starts with choices. It requires actions. When the moment to act arrives, you face another test. You feel the tension between standards vs comfort.

Standards build you up.
Comfort drags you down.

Standards say work harder.
Comfort says work later.

Standards get you better.
Comfort gets you stuck.

Standards appeal to the best you.
Comfort appeals to average you.

Standards make you stronger.
Comfort makes you weaker.

More comfortable options are always available to you. So are higher standard options. It starts with choices. It requires action.

Everything is training for something. Do the work.
