Your calling is not an impulse. Not a sudden interest or temporary desire. You’ll have plenty of those. Your calling is different.
The source of impulse is biology and ego. Its agenda is to push you away from pain and toward pleasure.
The source of your calling is purpose and fulfillment. Its agenda is to pull you away from emptiness and toward meaning.
Your calling is not concerned with your comfort. It will hide your treasure in the wilderness and make you fight for it. It will bloody your nose. It sends you out to prove yourself in hard, unforgiving reality.
Why?
Because your calling is worth it.
When you go all-in on your calling, you discover the treasure is not hidden out in the world. It’s buried within you. Your calling puts you on the right path and gives you the right challenges to uncover it. The biggest reward is not what you get but who you become and the lives you affect.
You are here to fulfill a purpose, create an impact, and make a difference. Your calling is trying to show you the way.
It doesn’t care if you’re comfortable. It cares if you’re pursuing true purpose.
It doesn’t care if you’re scared. It cares if you’re courageous.
It doesn’t care about your plans or society’s. It cares that you become who you’re here to become and do what you’re here to do.
If that sounds abstract, I understand. Modern life’s noise clouds this truth.
But I assure you, when you close your eyes and listen, nothing is more real than your calling.
