Life is full of tension. Clashing interests and priorities. Conflicting feelings and opinions. Opposing standards and strategies.
We notice these tensions. We feel them. And we don’t like them. Tension makes people uneasy. It can lead to anxiety and stress. Sometimes, it feels awkward.
So, we try not to cause tension. We avoid it. And when we feel it, we do our best to get rid of it.
That is our mistake. Because we win or lose by what we do under tension.
Tension between honesty and comfort.
Tension between impulse and discipline.
Tension between short-term interest and long-term value.
Tension between what you want to do and what you must do.
You don’t have to seek tension. It finds you on its own. You don’t have to love it. You don’t have to enjoy it. But you must be willing to work through it.
You can’t afford to shy away from tension. Your life will suffer. Your life may be suffering already because you hide from tension.
No achievement is possible without discipline under tension. You will not keep what you have and enjoy without demonstrating discipline under tension.
Everything you desire demands discipline under tension.
Brick by brick. Do the work.
