Fulfillment is earned, not given. Earning requires discipline. A fulfilling life, therefore, is built through discipline rather than by avoiding it.

Here are three rules for building the foundation of a fulfilling life:

Get the biggest priorities right.

  • Your biggest priorities need and deserve most of your attention, time, and energy.
  • First, you must identify and choose your biggest priorities.
  • By getting your biggest priorities right, you serve your other priorities.

Do the simple thing first.

  • You win by relentlessly executing on simplicity, which few people ever do, especially in today's overstimulated world.
  • Every complex thing that works is built from simple things that work.
  • If you won't do the simple things, you can't do the more complicated things.

Reassess after 12 months or 200 separate reps, whichever comes first.

  • Stack hundreds of bricks and learn by doing.
  • Commit to building a mountain of reps, experience, and deeper understanding before you evaluate and adjust anything.
  • Your first 12 months of reps will not be your highest quality, but they are the foundation of your excellence and the required path to your vision.

Think of these as “Commitments You Keep To Your Future Self”.

Discipline is the path to fulfillment:

  1. Get the biggest priorities right.
  2. Do the simple things first.
  3. Reassess after 12 months or 200 separate reps, whichever comes first.

Brick by brick. Do the work.
