Last Friday I announced that I shut down my social media accounts for the rest of the year. You can read the article I wrote explaining my reasons: I’m social media distancing for the rest of 2020. Here’s why.
Social media is not important to my life. But it’s been a vital and valuable tool in my business. There’s a good chance you’re reading this primarily because you found my teaching through social media. That’s the main reason my team and I have invested positive resources there so heavily despite the flood of negative noise we compete against for attention.
The essence of discipline is choices + objectives + standards. I made the choice to step away for the rest of the year. My objective is to eliminate the overload of meaningless and manipulative information and to invest my attention in more impactful areas. The standards I set are clear and absolute: No posting. No opening. Total blackout for Oct, Nov, and Dec.
After January 1, 2021 I will re-evaluate with discipline again. I don’t know what my experience will be or where my mindset and priorities will be at that time. Until then, I do the work.
Discipline is the shortcut. Do the work.
