Biology is no excuse for lack of discipline

I don't have total control over how my brain functions biologically. Neither do you.

First, I am subject to the same basic biological and human nature dynamics as everyone else.

Second, my unique brain wiring affects my patterns and preferences for everything I think, say, and do.

Third, the patterns embedded in my brain through exposure during my developmental years were almost entirely beyond my control or ability to affect meaningfully.

These three dynamics are not limited to my experience. Everyone has their unique version.

So while we don't have total control over how our brains function biologically, we can control what we do with how our brains function and the meaning we make from that process and experience.

We can't always control when our brains make comparisons that trigger feelings of envy. The machinery of the brain does that on its own.

We can control the meaning we make from feeling envy, what we do with that feeling, and with the comparison that created it.

We might not be able to control our desire for comfort and convenience. Brains want comfort (pleasure) and to avoid discomfort (pain).

We can control the meaning we make from our desire for comfort and convenience, what to do with that desire at any moment, and the standards we set for making decisions in the face of those persuasive desires.

We don't control our biology. We control what we do with it and are responsible for what we make of it.

The time is now. Do the work.
