Break the chains of desire for approval.

An enduring truth lurks under the surface of the intentions behind your behavior. Think about this closely. You’ll realize how true it is.

If you chase approval, you’ll never reach excellence. But if you chase excellence, you’ll never need approval.

Excellence and approval repeatedly come into conflict. To pursue one is to distance yourself from the other.

When approval is your aim, you’ll eventually sacrifice excellence in favor of acceptance. When excellence is your aim, you’ll eventually lose some people’s approval for sticking to your high standards.

You don’t need the approval of anyone who would stand in your way, hold you back, or criticize you for chasing excellence. Not from your family, friends, teammates, or strangers on the internet.

Excellence needs no justification. It supplies its own approval.

The time is now. Do the work.
