Self-control is primarily thought of as restraint. Someone with self-control can hold back an emotional reaction, bite their tongue, or say no to a temptation. Of course this is true. Restraint requires self-control. But so does action, initiative, and tenacity. Someone with self-control can provide that spark of proactive energy, face fear without backing down, and speak up for what is right when it’s unpopular.
