It is better to aim at a high standard and come up short than to aim at a low standard and hit the mark.
We all make mistakes. We all miss the mark. But the mark you’re trying to hit matters more than whether you’re hitting it.
Because whether you are aiming high, aiming low, or aiming for average, you will make mistakes. You will hit the mark and you will miss the mark.
On which side do you make mistakes:
- To the side of higher standards or lower?
- To the side of belief or doubt?
- To the side of stronger discipline or weaker?
- To the side of addressing or ignoring?
- To the side of more courage or less?
- To the side of responsibility or blame?
- To the side of more honesty or less?
- To the side of acknowledgment or defensiveness?
Aim higher, and you will sometimes fail. Aim lower, and you will still sometimes fail. You can’t guarantee success in any effort, but you can choose your aim.
When you fail, fail while aiming for a worthy mark and reaching for a high standard.
Brick by brick. Do the work.
