Dive under the surface of discomfort

On the surface, discomfort all feels the same. But under the surface of every discomfort is a bigger purpose.

Human nature wants to react to surface discomfort. It wants to treat every discomfort the same. But it is not all the same. Not even close. But you can only discover the truth by looking under the surface of discomfort, and most people don’t do that. They react to discomfort with human nature, satisfied to escape the discomfort.

You must supply the discipline to investigate under the surface, the discernment to recognize productive discomfort (Green Light) from dangerous discomfort (Red Light), and the courage to act on what you discover.

If you allow human nature to decide, unchecked by discipline, discernment, and courage, you will:

  1. Endure many discomforts empty of purpose or value, discomforts you could have avoided or eliminated.
  2. Avoid the discomforts required to reach the excellence, fulfillment, experiences, or transformations your soul seeks.

The next time you feel the friction of discomfort, remind yourself that you are only noticing the surface. The real story, the true story, is under the surface.

Your human nature will do its best to keep you reactive on the surface. Your higher nature must take charge so you can get reflective on what is under the surface.

Event + Response = Outcome. Do the work.
