Expose Your Excuses

One of the best elements of self-awareness you can build is to identify and expose the excuses you use. The common ones you use a lot because they feel smart, reasonable, and justified. This can be tough.

Not because it’s hard to actually identify them. That’s the easy part. It’s tough because you have to be willing to look, acknowledge, and accept. You have to be tough, mentally tough. It takes courage to uncover your excuses.

Try this . . .

Use 10 focused minutes today to write down the specific excuses you use. If you don’t like the word excuses, pick a different word: reasons, justifications, rationalizations, etc.

Write them down on paper. See how many you can identify, uncover, and expose.

You’ll be more self-aware of your common excuses when they show up, more prepared to resist their argument, and less likely to use them.

Everything is training for something. Do the work.
