Making decisions that shape my future

In the first Daily Discipline note of 2022, I told you that I love transitions. I've made two significant transitions in my career and personal life within three years. Opportunities don't care about timing and context. They come when they come.

I'm not scared to make a decision and act. But, when I am afraid, I'm still willing to act. It hasn't been without error, but I don't try to live an error-free life. I live for impact and fulfillment.

My willingness to make hard decisions in uncertainty and act on them has benefitted my life far more than it has cost me. As a consequence, my fulfillment runs deep, and I'm proud of the impact I've had . . . so far.

I turned 40 earlier this month, yet I feel like I've barely begun my journey. No matter how much we plan, script, and envision, life unfolds uniquely for all of us. Some of it happens by chance. But, so much of it happens by choice.

The key is to feel a sense of control in our journey's direction, purpose, and future options. We don't all want the same destination or journey along the way, but we all want to feel like we're in charge of it, not someone or something else.

The next step in my journey is in Denver, Colorado, with Rallyday Partners, a Denver-based private equity investment firm, where I am leading our human capital advisory services. That's another way of saying my job is to build and strengthen the leadership and culture execution of our portfolio companies.

Did I ever, in any vision for my life, imagine that I would one day work in a private equity firm? Never in a million years. But life happens, and here we are.

There's so much more I want to tell you. We'll get into that tomorrow.

Answer the call. Do the work.
