Opening the gates of discipline
Here’s a curious question for you.
You have to choose. Right now. Which mindset will you live with?
You must decide which one you believe. Not theoretically. Actually. Not conceptually. Practically.
Expecting the E to change puts you in a position of weakness. Depending on the E to change leaves you in a state of helplessness. You hand power over the outcome to things outside of you and beyond your control.
With that mindset and decision, your only way to a favorable outcome is through factors you can’t do anything about. That’s more than a disadvantage. That’s high-risk exposure.
The good news is this behavior pattern is learned. It’s learned helplessness. Why is that good news?
Because what’s learned can be unlearned. You learn a helpless mindset brick by brick, experience by experience, decision by decision, outcome by outcome. You unlearn it the same way.
Decision by decision you can build a different mindset. One that’s more accurate, more powerful, more disciplined. One that prioritizes and values the impact of your response on the outcome more than the event.
A mindset that acknowledges your capability. That lights up your agency. That moves you toward mastery.
The outcome of a game isn’t determined by the rules, the field, or your opponents. It’s determined by how you choose to play and how well you play.
So, which mindset do you choose?
Event + Response = Outcome. Do the work.
