Emotions are signals—raw impulsive cues urging you to do something. Every emotions carries a message, a cue to act. We cannot control these signals. We control what we do with these signals.
- Do you recognize the signal?
- Do you observe and evaluate it?
- Do trust it or doubt it?
- Do you obey it, ignore it, or redirect it into another action?
Discomfort is a signal. It is an alert that something about you, internally or externally, is experiencing strain or stress. But not every experience of discomfort warns you of the same thing or for the same reasons. You must decode the signal.
An experience of discomfort in your body could be a signal to seek medical attention. An experience of discomfort in a relationship could be a signal to change behavior patterns. An experience of discomfort in the learning process could be a signal you are on the verge of a breakthrough.
Discomfort is a signal, but is that signal a red, yellow, or green light?
Event + Response = Outcome. Do the work.
