Weak leadership is obvious. Here’s why . . .

Now you know the difference between a leader and a non-leader. It’s simple enough: if you want to be a leader, take responsibility for more than yourself. Leadership styles, strategies, and tactics vary, but that fundamental doesn’t.

Can you identify the #1 reason that’s difficult for anyone? Think about it. Why is it so difficult to take responsibility for more than yourself?

You only control yourself.

But, leadership requires that you take responsibility for more than yourself. See it now? Isn’t it obvious?

Leadership requires taking responsibility for things you don’t control

That’s the fundamental challenge of leadership. It’s a full-time job taking responsibility for what is in your control. Now you have to start taking responsibility for things that were never in your control to begin with?

No wonder there are still so many weak leaders and so few strong ones.

You may want the title. You may want the paycheck. You may want the status. But do you want that level of responsibility for things you’ll never control?

I observe too many people in positions of leadership unwilling to take responsibility for things they don’t control. Or trying to control things beyond themselves that they’ll never control.

It all stems from not having great control over themselves.

Brick by brick. Do the work.
